Primary angle-closure glaucoma. A review of provocative tests.

چکیده
A PROVOCATIVE test is one that "calls forth" a particular response under a defined set of conditions. For many years, a rise in intra-ocular pressure has been known to follow various circumstances. In attempts to detect glaucoma before serious eye disease occurred or to assess its control, various provocative tests have been elaborated (Leydhecker and Miller, 1949). Because acute angle-closure glaucoma frequently damages eyes and vision yet may show no obvious evidence of its presence between attacks, and because in favourable circumstances it can be cured by relatively simple surgery, appropriate provocative tests appear highly desirable to facilitate its detection before an all too obvious acute attack develops.

The Biometric Values of Affected and Fellow Eyes in Patients with Acute Attack of Primary Angle Closure
Background: It has been estimated that 67 million people worldwide are affected with a primary glaucoma and that one-third have primary angle closure glaucoma. We aimed to determine the biometric differences between the eyes of patients with acute attack of primary angle closure and their non-involved fellow eyes. Methods: Twenty eight patients with acute attack of primary angle closure were re...

In India, mutations in Cytochrome P450 (CYP1B1) are a predominant cause of not only primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) but also involved in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) and juvenile onset glaucoma (JOAG). After ethical clearance, 100 POAG patients, 30 primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG) patients and 130 ethnically matched controls were recruited in this study. Genomic DNA was is...

Introduction: Primary angle closure glaucoma suspects is one of the common causes of blindness in the world and methods of treatment are associated with side effects such as loss of corneal endothelial cells. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects YAG laser peripheral iridotomy on count and morphology of endothelial cells in patients with primary angle closure glaucoma suspect...

متن کاملEfficacy of Nd-YAG laser iridotomies in acute angle closure glaucoma.
Between September 1984 and April 1987 a total of 150 patients underwent Nd-YAG laser iridotomy procedures at the Bristol Eye Hospital. Forty of these patients (27%) were treated for acute angle closure glaucoma (AACG), and three of them (7%) suffered recurrent AACG. Sixteen patients who had been treated for AACG have been challenged by a pharmacological provocative test introduced by Mapstone, ...
